A low result usually comes from one of four places: the garment does not answer the customer request, the fabric choice does not support the style, the pattern pieces were placed or cut poorly, or the sewing accuracy drifted during construction. Decoration can help the look, but it usually cannot rescue a dress that already missed the brief or was assembled carelessly.

Before remaking a dress, check each step in order:

• Pattern: the chosen silhouette should match the request instead of only looking interesting.
• Fabric choice: the material should fit the desired mood, budget and construction needs.
• Cutting: grain alignment and panel edges should be clean before sewing starts.
• Sewing accuracy: seams should follow the guide line, especially on curves.
• Decoration: bows, lace, buttons or applique should support the brief rather than distract from it.
